Solitaire Game on Pocket PC

In: Computer Games

Every little thing we have today for our convenience looks to have it all. This includes our PDAs and Pocket PCs. Now, games invade these things we call as handy organizers. But for those who can not get enough video games and card games, having some computer games, like a solitaire game, integrated in a "serious" gadget is a welcome relief. With the superb visual effects, provocative graphic displays, and witty animation that many providers have, every gaming enthusiast is sure to develop a solitaire addiction.

PDArt had recently developed 700 solitaire games on Pocket PC v1.07. Here, there are 700 more reasons to get hooked on your PDA. I think this is so far the biggest solitaire game collection on a Pocket PC anyone has ever seen. Adding more to the appeal of the games are the enhanced sound quality and various game settings that would definitely suit your yearning and desire for some mind and card action.

On the other hand, not all PDA users are really crazy on investing on these games. Whenever in doubt, you can always try the demo version for free. After all, you can only spend so much time and money for your solitaire addiction. Playing a demo is a good alternative to an immediate buy, since the demo gives you a full insight into the game. You just have to make sure that your Pocket PC or PDA has the latest software support, usually a Windows Mobile 5 or PocketPC version 2003. This is to ensure that if you ever get past the demo version, you get to enjoy the games and solitaire variants compatible with your handheld device.

Some solitaire game providers have a feature wherein you can choose a background or theme to complement your solitaire gaming experience. Plus, having a colorful and enticing background and theme would definitely keep you in the mood for completing the game. These images are required to be in GIF, JPG, PNG, or BMP formats, so you have to make sure that your PDA has enough space to accommodate these files as well. Some providers offer additional tool for the organization of the solitaire games in the device. The tool can organize the games by criteria, level, or even by difficulty. This way, it would be easier to retrieve data in one fast click.

While there are other varieties of good games and brands, the best reason to stay entertained with the games are its power-packed features. A good game collection includes the best rule options, categories, and solitaire game statistics. Customization is also a bonus in a solitaire game. This means that the game package should enable you to place names or check card layouts. With these features and the ongoing developments in games, solitaire addiction on handhelds may be the next big thing.

How To Improve Your PC Games Without Getting Upgrades

In: Computer Games

PC games are a great way to idle away a few hours at your computer. However, running these games can retard your computer system by storing a number of the settings incorrectly. If you are finding this hard to follow, understand that PC games are constantly making use of innumerable setting and files that the computer requires to “read” for them to function effectively. While your computer is well equipped to handle this operation, it can cause Windows to become perplexed and hamper the proper functioning of your PC games.

A major reason for your computer games operating at a slower pace is because a number of issues have arisen in a section of your computer that is known as the “registry.” The registry is the main database where critical settings and details about your computer is located. Moreover, you will find every single setting and option that your computer software uses for running. The registry is continuously saving and opening files for running, making it the heart of your computer’s operations. It is also where a majority of your computer’s malfunctions take place.

The trouble with the registry is that each time you start your computer; countless settings within the machine get affected, causing the system to take more time to read the necessary files. Since PC games employ a large number of the registry settings when in use, a number of these games function at a slower rate due to damaged settings.

Corrupt registry is the chief cause for problems in gaming. You can sort this out by making use of a software tool called the “registry cleaner” that repairs the errors. You can download a registry cleaner that is devised to carry out a scan on your computer and mends the errors that impair your computer. Once this is done, you can enjoy all the latest computer games without experiencing any glitches when you are playing. In the process, the speed and responsiveness of your system gets enhanced.

Ultimately, there are numerous factors that can cause turbulence in your PC gaming fun. Lagging games can be brought on by a sluggish computer, inferior graphics card/ driver or a slow Internet connection. The most effective way of resolving these difficulties is to install a registry cleaner program that can increase the amount of time taken to load games on your computer as well as make for a faster gaming entertainment.

How To Choose The Best PC Gaming Headset

In: Computer Games

A good PC gaming headset is almost a must if you want to have the best gaming experience. Most games nowdays are embedded with high definition audio effects. To really enjoy the game and be in the game, a good gaming headset is necessary.

So what makes a good PC gaming headset?

Comfort

A good computer gaming headset must be able to provide comfort to the user. This is necessary since you will be wearing it for a long period of time. There is only one way to test whether a headset is comfortable or not, and that is to try it out before you make your purchase.

Most of the time, the comfort factor is dependent on the:

  • Padding – Is it thick and soft enough to protect your ear?
  • Ear cups – Is it big enough to contain your ear?
  • Headband – Is it freely adjustable to suit the size of your head?
  • Weight – Is it too heavy for your ear to carry?

Put it on for 15 minutes and you will know whether it is suitable for you or not.

Sound Quality

A good PC gaming headset must have the ability to produce great sound quality. While different people perceive sound differently, you can use these few guideline to distinguish a headset with good sound quality from a bad one.

Bass

A gaming headset with a powerful bass will show significant differences in first person shooting game such as Counterstrike. You will be able to hear clearly the bullets flying around you and distinct explosion in the background.

Surround Sound

Surround sound effect is necessary to create the realism in your gameplay. Those PC gaming headsets with 5.1 digital audio encoded will be useful to help you identify the enemy that is sneaking behind you or shooting at you

Noise Cancellation

Some gaming headset uses an external microphone to pick up external noise and invert them to cancel out any unwanted noise. This is extremely useful if you are always playing in a noisy environment, such as an Internet cafe.

Cable Length

The cable length will determine how far away you can stay behind the screen. A typical gaming headset should have a cable length of 2m. Anything shorter than this length will restrict your movement and cause inconvenience to you. If you are playing game console, such as Xbox or PS3, in your living room, you may consider getting a headset with longer cable or an extra extensible cable to connect to your headset.

Wireless Headset

If you always move around and do not wish to be bothered by the cable, you can choose the wireless gaming headset that makes use of Bluetooth or RF technology. A word of caution, wireless heads may be more prone to noise interference and / or loss of signal during the transmission, which can lead to static, pops or annoying noise.

Microphone

Some of the PC gaming headsets are geared with a microphone to allow interaction during gameplay. This might be a useful feature that you want to include in your gaming headset.

Volume Control

This may seem a trivial feature, but it matters a lot when you are far away from your sound system. For a gaming headset with surround sound feature, it would be useful to have an inline volume control to control the individual speaker levels. You can customize the volume setting for each speaker to enhance your gaming experience.

Vibrator

Force feedback gaming headsets make use of vibration to try to recreate the physical sensation of bass frequencies. The headset can vibrate in sympathy with the low frequencies in the audio signal, so that listeners both hear and feel the bass.

These should sum up most of the features found in a good PC gaming headset.

In conclusion, choosing a good PC gaming headset can be a very personal thing. A headset might fit comfortably on others, but not on you. You will have to try out the headset before deciding whether it is suitable for you.

How to Select the Best Gaming Laptops

In: Computer Games

Most veteran PC gamers know exactly what they want in a gaming laptop, and those who have the time and money have probably already built their dream computer themselves, but if you are a little newer to the field, a little more fond of the smaller notebook footprint, or a little less comfortable with a do-it-yourself computer, you need to be armed with these basic facts before purchasing your gaming laptop.

The three most important components for any high-end laptop are the processor, RAM and graphics card. Since you are building a gaming rig, you will want to focus on your graphics card first and foremost. Make sure you load up the video memory with at least 256MB and remember to select a notebook that has a dedicated graphics card. Integrated graphics simply can not handle any modern, 3D gaming.

The next most important component is your processor. Dual-core CPUs are the hottest thing out right now. Ideally, you want to stay within the top two or three fastest dual-core CPUs, in terms of processor speed, that are currently available at the time of your purchase. This will ensure that your notebook is fully optimized for all of today's latest 3D games.

The third most important factor in the speed of your laptop is RAM. You will need at least 1GB to safely play most 3D games without any memory bottlenecking, although most hardcore gamers opt for 2GB or more just for the added punch and / or bragging rights.

The fourth and final tip would be to go with 7200rpm hard drives, as these will definitely speed up load times by adding some extra horsepower to your gaming machine.

With recent advances in mobile technologies, laptops are now becoming more and more popular in the gaming community, as the prospect of a portable gaming rig that can produce desktop-like performance on the go is something that appeals to all gamers. Just remember to follow these four simple guidelines to ensure that your laptop will be able to meet or exceed all of the hardware requirements for your gaming sessions.

Upcoming PC Games of 2009 & End of 2008

In: Computer Games

What to look forward to in 2009 / end of 08

There are a lot of games that will be coming out in 2009 / end of 08 for PC gamers to look forward to. As this year's E3 companies such as Activision-Blizzard revealed their latest offerings for the PC gamer and while it may not be the bonanza it was in years passed there is still much to gossip about.

Here are some of the top games being released in 2009 / end of 08:

oRise of the Argonauts – Focusing on Greek myths, this offering from Liquid Entertainment promises to bring in characters and creatures from the most popular Greek myths and presents them in a format that allows for fast-paced combat and rich storytelling.

oCommand & Conquer: Red Alert 3 – This time around, the conflict escalates as the Empire of the Rising Sun enters the fray. With an entirely new fact, the game promises to be even more exciting and satisfying than any Red Alert title to date.

oCrisa Warhead – Don the nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, aka "Psycho," and experience a storyline parallel to the events of the original game.

oLeft 4 Dead – Using the Counter-Strike Source Engine, Left 4 Dead has a group of four illegally heroes band together to battle hordes of infected.

oS.TALKER: Clear Sky – Clear Sky is the prequel to STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl and takes place a year earlier, when the unstable zone is causing anomalous activity galore.

oAlpha Protocol – Sega and Obsidian are reteaming for this role-playing game that eschews sci-fi and fantasy for a Bourne Identity-like world of high-tech espionage.

oSpore – Spore is a simulation game created by Will Wright that allows players to control various life forms from the cellular to the galactic level.

oFar Cry 2 – The sequel to the much-acclaimed island shooter aims to make a big splash in 2008.

oEmpire: Total War 3 – The Total War series takes to the seas with 3D naval combat in this 18th century strategy game.

oFallout 3 – After being canceled at Interplay, this sequel to the post post apocalyptic role-playing game was resurrected by Bethesda, where it is currently in development.

For me left for dead appears to be very promising as it has all my favorite mode of all time – COOP! The thought of battling it out with hundreds of monsters with friends is a very promising prospect. Coupled with the fact that it is being produced with the source engine makes this the highlight of E3 for me.

Crysis warhead will also have high expectations considering how much of a success its predecessor was. It will be interesting to see how Far Cry 2 compares to this title in terms of graphics and game play considering Crysis was supposed to be a sequel to far cry in the first place.

I will also be looking forward to Empire: Total War 3 as I always find this genre of PC game very enjoyable as well as the extra challenge that will come with 3D naval combat.

How Do Massive Online Role Playing Computer Games Work?

In: Computer Games

Perhaps you have heard of the term: "MMORPG multiplayer online role playing game". Just a few years ago hardly anyone even had a clue what this term meant, but nowdays just about everyone knows what it means. But have you ever wondered just how these games work, or what exactly to expect from them? It is something that you almost have to see to believe, but we will still go over most of the main elements of the MMORPG computer games.

Basically, in a nutshell, a MMORPG is just an online game that takes place in a digital fantasy world, which is almost always takes place in medieval times. When you enter this fantasy world (also known as a computer server, to be technical) you will see many other players that you can talk to and interact with. They generally appear as medieval characters made up of many different races, or even monsters, such as orcs, elves, and so on (especially in the extremely popular MMORPG known as "World of Warcraft").

While most of the MMORPG's have many, many different types of tasks that you can do, or different types of monsters that you can fight, the core element of these games usually consist of completing quests (or missions), which generally end up giving you some sort of item or new skill that will strengthen your character. You will often run into many monsters that you will need to kill in order to make your way through the question. When you kill monsters in a MMORPG they give you what is known as "experience points", which will help you character to become more powerful (also known as "leveling up").

When you character levels up, they will start to do more damage, and land blows on enemies with greater success, and their defensive capabilities will usually increase as well. Also, on top of making your character stronger, you will also find more powerful equipment to use when you kill more and more monsters as you progress through the game. The types of equipment that you use is basically the same types of things that you would see in just about any medieval movie that you have ever watched; the equipment usually consist of swords, knives, clubs, axes, body armor, helmets, boots, gauntlets, and so on. However, you can usually find magical equipment as well, some of which may even cast spells.

Many of the MMORPG's out there are basically a never ending Saga, and you can literally spend days, if not MONTHS playing the game, and never reach the maximum potential that you character is capable of. Also, most MMORPG's also have more and more content added each month through updates, which generally adds additional quests, equipment, and even new areas to explore. So with all of that said and done, you should now easily understand how so many people get addicted to these games, and sometimes play them for days on end with little to no sleep. So hopefully you do not fall into this trap some day too; you have been warned!
